DēLonghi HVS3032 EX:3

DēLonghi Steel Elite HVS3032/3031 EX:3 fan heater: Even better-built now!

While the Italian company DēLonghi is most famous for their coffee machines (full disclosure – I don’t drink coffee and therefore don’t use any manufacturer’s coffee machine myself), they do have a fully-fledged appliance range. Their higher-priced appliances tend to be among the best-built on the market, while their lower-priced models (such as the HCM2030 convector) at least stay in the middle of the pack rather than at the bottom.
Although not of great importance to me (others may feel differently), DēLonghi also work to make their appliances look stylish without detracting from their function.

In 2020 I bought the earlier version, which was available with different trim finish options (I chose “pearl” white; red and blue also exist).
The current EX:3 revision has some quality improvements (more on them later), but seems to only be available with shiny chrome-plated trim (in Australia anyway). (At least the trim is indeed steel, not the usual metallized plastic junk.)

Overview

Compared to many other fan heaters, the HVS3032’s obvious advantage is its inclusion of three power settings rather than just two. Full power is the Australian maximum 2400W (240V 10A); by my measurements (the online numbers don’t add up) medium power is 1500W and low power is 900W. In addition, the fan speed is lowered on the 900W mode.
In some other countries you can find the HVS3031 with a 230V 2200W rating, but this is probably the same actual heater (the HVS3032’s bottom label implies as much) which is probably where the listed 1400W medium and 800W low settings (about right at 230V after rounding) came from.

The HVS3032/3031 includes a thermostat, but lacks an oscillating base; this is my preferred configuration (an oscillating base can eventually fatigue the internal wires, and their breakage can throw some quite intimidating sparks with the current and power involved).

Retail price is/was AU$109 (the last time I remember). I got the older version at RetraVision (as with several of my other heaters and small appliances, including other DēLonghi models), but Harvey Norman seems to be the HVS3032.C EX:3’s main seller.
