Corsair extends PSU warranty, releases new SPEC-ALPHA case

Just few days ago, Corsair extended the warranty of four of their high-end power supply series from 7 to 10 years. The change takes effect immediately, and it affects in particular the AXi, HXi, RMi and RMx series, lengthening the already generous warranty period. We have previously reviewed two of these units from these series (the HX750i and RM550x), and both scored very well, and had this longer warranty been effect then, they would have scored even better. This change applies to all units sold to date, as well as to all future sales. No additional action from the customer is necessary!

Corsair has also launched a new mid-tower case, the Carbide SPEC-ALPHA. This is a somewhat futuristic design, and being of a somewhat more conservative nature, it really isn’t for me, personally. Either way, it has a window, and I guess some fans of this feature as well as those that like futuristic designs might appreciate it. It comes in three color combinations, namely: black/grey, red/white, and also a third, previously unannounced black/red. The case offers two 120mm front fan positions, two top fans, and single rear so it is also capable of supporting some water cooling radiators. It also comes with an embedded fan controller with three fixed speeds, as well as a dust filter for the front and bottom intake positions.

Here we see that this case uses a bottom-mount PSU design. It supports long peripheral cards up to 380 mm, and the maximum CPU cooler height is 156 mm. The SPEC-ALPHA offers no 5.25″ external drive slots, but it does have three 3.5″ and four 2.5″ positions. The front panel is pretty ordinary in terms of ports – two USB3 ports and two audio jacks. The warranty period on this case is two years and the RSP incl. VAT comes out to 80 US bucks flat. While Corsair doesn’t list the type of steel they use, I would guess that with it having the dimensions of 518 × 220 × 474 mm and weighing only 5.7 kg, it’s probably some very thin stuff. We’ll have to wait and see to know for sure.
