Cooler Master G550M: 80+ Bronze, DC-DC and modular cabling from Channel Well

Connectors & cabling

All wires in the cabling are 18AWG (besides a few trivial ones like PWR On or Power Good) which is also the case of both 6+2pin PCIe connectors on common 8 wires. All fixed cables are sleeved while modular cables are welded together to form flat ribbons. There is no extra gold plating on connectors pins nor any unplugging clips or other extra features, just a plain cabling.

Kabelaz In particular, we have:

Fixed cabling:

  • Main ATX (20+4pin): 54 cm
  • 1× ATX 12 V (4+4pin): 61 cm
  • 2× PCIe (6+2pin):  52 and 63 cm

Modular cabling:

  • 6× SATA: 2× 42 cm, 2× 55 cm and 2× 68 cm (all 90°)
  • 3× peripheral molex: 1× 42 cm, 1× 54 cm and 1× 66 cm
  • 1× Berg for FDD: 78 cm

Casing & cooling

The casing is made from only 0.6mm SECC steel though thanks to thorough fabrication it is stronger than it would normally be with such thin material. It comes with matt (possibly powdered) black lacquering. The fan grille is made by directly perforating the top part of metal casing.  The backside for exhaust air is made with hexagonal holes which are not around the AC receptacle at all, as can be seen on the picture in previous chapter, while the top part is mostly obstructed by the fan frame so the air will be pushed to the center of the exhaust.

So in this case you can expect great turbulences and pockets of hot air, this is not good at all! The unit has a plastic bushing for the cables exiting from it. The fan used is ball-bearing Yate Loon D12BH-12, the same as the Cooler Master V Semi Modular uses. The current rating is 0.3 A so it should be the slower version rated 2300 RPM, its airflow should be 89 CFM with noise level of 41 dBA. About a third of it is obstructed by plastic film.
