Dell Studio XPS 8100 design flaw

Postby c_hegge » December 2nd, 2013, 1:27 am

So, I had to fix up a Dell Studio XPS 8100 desktop PC the other day. Among other things I had to clean out the dust and after pulling off the side panel, a somewhat disturbing design flaw caught my eye. The PC uses a Radeon 5770 Gaphics card, and has a steel bracket which screws to the case near the HDD bay to hold it in position. The wires for the HDD's SATA power connector run right under it, but unfortunately, the bracket doesn't have folded edges, and had chafed the wires! . I covered the edges of the bracket in tape before putting it back together.
