Video issues - computer or LCD?

Postby shovenose » June 21st, 2011, 1:48 pm

Well, I have my nice Dell 22" LCD hooked up to my Compaq PC. Now I'm having issues.

I need help telling if my issues are on the screen or in the computer.
I took a screenshot. If you see the bad pixels then that means it's the computer not the screen, right?

The issue first appeared about half an our ago while Windwos Movie Maker was saving a movie (a CPU intensive task)...
Entire lines across the screen came and went, now there are only individual pixels...

I don't know what to do? :-( is my screen or my computer broken?
I'm trying to run prime95 to see if it makes it worse but so far I can't tell. I'm gonna try FurMark next.

Well, I tried a different screen and it still happened. It was an nVidia graphics card so failures aren't too unusual. I replaced with a Geforce 6800 Ultra (the broken one is a 7900GT), and now everything is fine again! :D I am ahppy!

I see two light blue pixels on the picture, so I think it's not your monitor's problem. Well, I think you already know that.

This happened to my friend's xfx 7300GT too a couple of years ago. I replaced his video card with mine and all these unpleasant pixels were gone.

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the coils backwards! :D

now I'm using a Seasonic 300W PSU (i might put the antec or a different one back in since the Seasoinc makes an annoying noise), and an ATI Radeon HD 4350 1GB (the 6800 Ultra was too hot) and i added a blue fan near the hard drive lol

Could it be coil whining?

Yeah. It's not that annoying, and the PSU has less extra cables than the Antec. so I might leave it.

Coil whine is harmless, right?
