Vista takes forever to install :(

Postby shovenose » February 26th, 2012, 2:00 pm

So, I am installing Windows Vista on my Bedside PC. XP Installation was fast IIRC. Thing is, I want to use 7, but for some reason the installer won't load, so I'm stuck using Vista. I'm using Home Premium x64 SP2, it's installing right now.

Thing is, it takes freaking FOREVER!
It might have to do with the fact that I *bought* this during a *torrent*ial rain storm, but for the specs of this computer this shouldn't be taking 2 hours...

Specs:
-Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz
-2GB DDR2
-320GB WD Caviar Blue SATA HDD
-Crappy old IDE DVDROM <-- maybe that's why?
-GeForce 6200 128MB

It might have taken a while to install but it runs quite nicely!
I'm never going back to XP ever again. Good riddance old crap!

Windows7 installation was fast too. :P More so if you install it from a flash drive or a HDD.

Windows 7 installation is much faster. However, once it's installed, it's blazing fast!
Vista is generally as fast as XP. 7 is slightly faster than either of those.

You could burn the installation DVD-ROM into a flash drive (using "Windows7 usb/dvd-rom download tool" that M$ provides or UltraISO), if the old IDE DVDROM was the problem.
