Is it really a risk? I've never had any sort of issues, and I am NOT careful with ESD at all!?

I don't take much care about ESD either. I don't think I've ever damaged anything with it before.

I take care for ESD to an extent. I've never had anything messed up with it, but I've heard you can have components fail months after the damage is done. I take my socks off when I'm working on carpet and I tend to lean on the computer case with a desktop or touch a finger to metal on a laptop. Other than that I don't fool with the wrist strap or anything.

^you'll electrocute yourself to death doing that lol I just open up the pc and swop the parts. We have a lot of tiles in our home if I might add but have never seen a ESD issue in my life to be honest. I've seen people tying themselves to waterpipes and damage their hardware by forcing it in lol
