They only became as big as they are by copying what the industry leaders do, then making it incrementally cheaper.
Once the leaders are forced to match their undercutting, product quality gets dragged into a downward spiral…
Information is far more fragile than the HDDs it's stored on. Being an afterthought is no excuse for a bad product.
