I don't mean to rain on Behemot's parade, but apparently Uni-T meters aren't very good themselves.

Granted, they might give alright performance for the price. But we're talking real danger if the claimed voltage ratings are taken at face value by the operator. (Do you trust an M205 glass fuse at Cat IV? Me neither, knowing that they can explode from the fault current available at even a normal household wall outlet.) For what it's worth, so far I have only a bargain-bin meter myself, but at least it doesn't claim to be suitable for mains usage (even though it does have a 500VAC range).

Yes, there is much to make better and I actually intent to later. Though exactly, most of them are still good for the price. There are some exceptions like the UT71E. You see ppl I met at actions like the one today are not even willing to give the money I sell the UNI-T for. Those are not really professionals working on line in factory. Plus industry can pay the prices for proper equipment. Ordinary user can not and will not. I take UNI-T (and Mastech etc.) as the lowest cheap brands. There are dozens of chinese brands but those instruments are mostly garbage. UNI-T is the among the first half-decent ones. And they are making progress continuosly…

As for the UT61E, this meter also does not have best built quality, but kicks for 50 bucks. There are also long threads about making it better, as I do plan for future (and also to sell these enhanced versions). From what I have seen so far, you can add the backlight, add external (way more accurate) voltage reference, replace the voltage calibration pot for better calibration stability, enable automatic shutdown and enable low-pass filter. The chipset has that function, but it's disabled because of patents.
