I noticed the intake temperature was rather lower than that of the other reviews (I doubt it would have performed as well had it been higher), perhaps because this PSU is in the $40 range?

I can't do much about that. It's winter here, I have no heating near the workbench (yet), and the load tester doesn't start to get very hot until you hit 700W+.

Nice PSU...it did better than I expected! If I came across one I would definitely recap it

What about a secondary spot-heater, with a separate power source (from the PSU under test)???

I might consider that once I get a better lab in a month or two. At the moment, the load tester lives on a table outdoors (under cover, though)
