Xbox 360 vs PS3

Postby Morsec0de » June 3rd, 2011, 1:17 am

Most of us would of played one of the two, if not both. These are both two great gaming consoles, they ofcourse, have their flaws and problems as with everything, but nevertheless, they're both highly played. Personally, if someone told me to choose between getting a free 360 or PS3, I would go for the 360. I feel the 360 has more features, it has more users, it's designed better. Having said this, the PS3 is more powerful in some aspects, compared to the 360.

One problem with the XB360 is that they are notorious for overheating and cooking their capacitors. The PS3 never got such a reputatuion. Personally, my favourite game platforn is PC.
No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the coils backwards! :D

I've had a 360 for over 2 years, I played 5-6 hours without stopping sometimes and I never experienced issues with overheating. I don't do much PC Gaming, the only game I play on the PC is San Andreas Multiplayer since I'm a manager of a San Andreas Multiplayer server.

Well, everyone around here says their 360s always overheat (although I haven't personally owned one). One person had is fail with the red ring about 3 times in 1 year

I guess some people have more luck than others. I've been fortunate enough to of never experienced any problems with my 360.

Yeah, I work at a technology recycler and computer repair place, we get a lot of broken XBOX 360 consoles donated. And a bunch of people come in asking if we fix them. But as far as I know, usually it's the motherboard/video chipset needs to be reflowed, not the caps.

That's interesting to hear. I would of thought Microsoft would of acted on the problems outlined in this thread. In a way, I think they don't because they know they can get extra money out of it when people send their consoles back to be repaired.

Yeah. They just didn't design the original version very well...They changed the heatsinks in the newer one to be bigger and more effective, making it less likely for the video chips to fail, but AFAIK the caps are still vulnerable to overheating.

That might explain why I've never had a problem. Since I purchased a brand new Xbox, where they had patched several issues. The problems outlined above may be for a console version older than mine. I don't have the newest Xbox though. Not planning to buy it either.

Well, the newer 360 is less likely to have issues.
