Both CPU Cores are always at 100% in task manager when playing. It's already overclocked to 3.6GHz (the stock speed is 3.0GHz).
No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the coils backwards! :D

3.6GHz plus 500MHz, that would be 4.1GHz :D The stock clock of E8400 is 3.0GHz. E8400 processors normally have good over-clocking potential though.

If I go any higher than 3.6, it either doesn't POST or gets unstable. Remember, the multiplier is locked, so I can only increase the FSB. I didn't build be current system with overclocking in mind (it was a few years ago now). My board is a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L, the L meaning "Lite" so it's really just built for reliability, not so much for overclocking.

I really like those processors with unlocked multiplier such as i5 2500K and i7 2600k. It won't put to much pressure on the memory module(s) if you over clock the cpu by adjusting its multiplier.

yeah and they're not that much more expensive than the standard ones IIRC.

an AUD is actually worth slightly more than a USD at the moment.

What about a Core 2 Quad Extreme Edition then?
If you got a Core 2 Duo 600MHz above stock then you should be able to get a Core 2 Quad to oveclock...and if you get one that has a high clock speed to begin with and an unlocked multiplier, you might even hit 5GHz :D That would probably get you an extra 0.1 FPS lol.
