As far as I can see, Creative Labs are no longer trying to do anything other than reinforce PC gamers' view of them as being "state-of-the-art". If it's worth paying hundreds of dollars for a fancy sound card, it's also worth paying the comparatively small costs of plastic film capacitors for coupling and a shielded casing for the card as a whole.

Brilliant Lighting = Retarded Lighting

I rather absent-mindedly got their model 100693/20, a dual 6W LED floodlamp. The most I can say for it is that the illumination provided is alright (I tested that by temporarily connecting a flexible cord and plugging it in, not by actually installing the unit), but the build quality, not so much.

It's less bad than that Crompton 13W fluoro fitting (at least this time a real X2 capacitor is used across the mains), but still not decent. Not only are the electrolytic capacitors made by Asia'X , the "heatsink" is inside the sealed housing, which effectively means it's not a heatsink. To top it off, there's what looks like a position for a cable clamp, but no such clamp is provided. It isn't even mentioned that you need to get the clamp separately, nor what type of clamp you're supposed to use. One of the plastic insulation barriers is also a bit distorted.

It's just a total ripoff, is all I can conclude. From now on, I'll only buy these things from a whitelist — someone has to have disassembled the unit and shown a build that's up to par. Any references to suitable resources would be much appreciated.

So basically, I'm kind of screwed. I'm still without the means to replace the caps, and even if I did so, the disabled-heatsink issue bothers me. The original fitting is a rather worn-out Philips QHF360 (going by memory), and as a "bonus", the fixing plugs have come out of the wall, leaving the fitting hanging from the wires — which I've already seen water on . So I don't have any good options right now. At least the light in question isn't used that much.
