From what I hear, a T1 line is supposed to be the equivalent of about 26 DSL lines not in terms of speed, but in terms of capacity to transmit data at that speed. A T3 line is supposed to have the capacity of about 26 T1 lines, or about 700 DSL lines.
I looked it up about 9 months ago, so that's what I remember reading anyways. Virginia Tech has a T3 line as their primary internet service and it is blazing fast.
