That first sample of the BR800I is obviously faulty (43.6V peak-to-peak? :lol2:). The waveform asymmetry visible in the Eaton 3105 350i is also a bit disconcerting. The EPS-300PII also appears to be missing the negative half of the waveform.
Information is far more fragile than the HDDs it's stored on. Being an afterthought is no excuse for a bad product.

Some of the early measurements are kinda wonky, plus I usually inplug the UPS input so it does not have proper ground reference (besides the O-scope probe shielding).

The good 'ol PII only has twice the amplitude in the higher part of the cycle, the bottom one is still not 0 though. I must check it, it was kinda crazy before I started turning that knob, and I think I solved that, but sometimes my AP shuts down completely so…either the UPS (though if it was cycling as before, even the Panasonic accumulator would be dead by now), or the injector is failing (more likely).

Hello Behemot,

I'm currently searching an UPS for my coming NAS. After having been equipped for years of solely surge protection, I'm considering setting up proper protections. After long hours of online researchs, I finally find your database where true tests of the UPS' output signals have been disclosed. Many thanks for that! Considering your experience in that field I would gladly take your help to elect the right PSU.

I made a short list of what seem to be the "best" I can have in my place:
    APC BX500I => 65€
    Eaton EL650FR => 88€
    Eaton 5S 500 => 99€
    Eaton ELP650FR => 116€
    Eaton 5S 700 => 120€
    APC BR550GI => 139€
    APC SMT750i=> 139€ (refurbished)
    Eaton 5SC 500i => 144€
    APC SMT1000i=> 165€ (refurbished)

Questions
  • My current understanding (greatly helped by your work) is that the 5SC/SMTs are "out of the comparison" as they are the only ones with true sine wave signal. Considering that running from batteries will be an accidental situation, going for true sinewave seems a bit overkill considering the upcost supported for only a few minutes of usage here and there. Is this a right point of view?
  • But quid of the others? Are the price differences justified? Which ones are the sweetspot?
  • Or on the total opposite, is the the price differences between those products totally justifying to go for 5SC and SMTs as they could be much better (quality/ longevity/ efficiency / ?)?
