Fractal Design Define R5 Review

Conclusions

If you are looking for a case in which to build a silent computer, then the Fractal Design Define R5 is certainly worth considering. It has excellent build quality, plenty of space, and is easy to build in. The case’s noise suppression capabilities were also very impressive, in that it was able to keep a noisy test computer relatively quiet. The only issues (the lack of a 3.5″ bay or a 5.25″ to 3.5″ adapter, the standoffs, and the size of the hole for the EPS12V connector) are minor and may not affect everyone, and we feel that it is well worth the $150AUD that PC Case Gear currently sells it for.

Pros:

  • Easy to work in
  • Good build quality
  • Effective noise suppression
  • Screw-less mount on left side panel
  • Excellent cable management
  • Plenty of room for long graphics cards
  • Removable dust filtering on all intake fan vents
  • Decent water cooling support
  • Removable drive cages
  • Covers included for unused vents

Cons

  • Hole for EPS12V connector is a very tight fit (-0.5)
  • Motherboard standoffs are easier than usual to cross-thread (-0.5)

Score: 9/10
