The Interior

The interior of the Z583 isn’t painted, but this isn’t really necessary considering the case’s target audience. The headers consist of a USB 2.0 header, an Audio header (which can support either HD Audio or AC’97 Audio), a firewire header, and the usual headers for the power button and LEDs. This case lacks a reset switch, so there is no header for one.
There are no holes in the motherboard tray, so you can’t tuck excess cables behind it, nor can you install a CPU cooler that requires a back plate without removing the motherboard. With most office computers, however, this isn’t a major problem. Usually the CPU’s stock cooler is used, which doesn’t require a back plate.

The case has two 5.25″ bays, three 3.5″ bays, and one 2.5″ bay. The 3rd 3.5″ bay is actually at the front of the case and has the drive mounted vertically, with its connectors facing the top. Both of the 5.25″ bays and one of the 3.5″ bays have screwless mounts. To unlock the drive, you simply pull the green knobs out, and push them in to lock. The slot covers are not punched out – they are easily removable and can be re-installed if you decide to remove one of the expansion cards, which is really nice to see on a budget case. We’ll see shortly whether the screwless mounts work, or if the drives rattle and vibrate too much.
