Corsairs newest RMx line is an evolution of the older RM line. This is a series of semi-passive, fully-modular and 80 PLUS Gold certified (@115 V) units; the necessary papers are not yet published on Ecova’s website, but I have asked for them. At least for now, the series has been cut to only five models (550-1000 W), most likely because of engineering, manufacturing and distributing costs (450W units often do not make economical sense). And we have the Corsair RM550x here,
The new stuff is that now the units are specified for continous operation at 50 °C with seven-year warranty, a jump from 40 °C and five-year warranty. Other specifications remain, especially a single 45.8A +12V rail. But the +3.3/+5V rails are strong too with 25 A each or 130 W combined. The −12 V rail can also provide 0.8 A, a figure which is not so common these days.
Printing on the box tells us that the Corsair RM550x has 100% Japanese capacitors, we will see if that is true. If so, it is nice change from RM which was half-filled with Teapos or similar crapacitors. There is also noise diagram (at 25 °C ambient! this is important information) which tells us the unit should run passively up to 225 W, then with fixed speed until 390 W and only than start increasing the speed up to full load.
