SilentiumPC Elementum E1 SI-350 (SPC124) review

Connectors & cabling

The cabling is not garbage, well at least not completely anyway. The Main ATX is sleeved and basically all the wiring is 18AWG (with the exception of a few wires like the +3.3V feedback, etc.). None of the main connectors are gold-plated, and that is also the case for two of the four SATA connectors (which seem to be from a different manufacturer than the other two). One of them does not even carry forward the +3.3V wire. Well, lets hope that that’s the biggest deficiency of the SI-350. On the other hand there is actually present a 6+2pin PCIe though I am not sure if the unit is actually capable of delivering the rated power for an 8-pin connector. Combined with the 4+4pin ATX 12 V, I think a 6 pin PCIe conector would have been sufficient, and not to mention a safer option.

In total, we have:

  • 1× Main ATX (20+4pin): 34 cm
  • 1× ATX 12 V (4+4pin): 55 cm
  • 1× PCIe (6+2pin): 35 cm
  • 4× SATA: 1× 36 cm, 1× 52 cm, 1× 65 cm, 1× 67 cm
  • 2× peripheral molex: 1× 34 cm, 1× 49 cm

Casing & cooling

The metal chassis of the SI-350 is composed of 0.5mm SECC steel, and it’s the ordinary variety with the basic grey finish. It’s sturdier than you might imagine, despite the thin metal. The fan grille is punched directly to the upper piece of the casing. The slots are nicely rounded in an effort to make it less restrictive for the airflow. Obviously it’s not the best grill, but for the price and considering the not too terrible efficiency (and low power rating), it should be enough.

Shora

The back of the unit has the usual hexagonal mesh pattern there, covering most of the back side, even around the AC inlet and switch. Where the cabling exits the chassis is protected by a plastic bushing.

Zepredu

The fan is the ShenZhen Qihuida Technology QH1225S12L, a 120mm model with a sleeve bearing. About a third of it is covered by a plastic sheet in an attempt to better direct air through the unit.
