SilverStone PS14 – Suitable For The Office?

Cooling & component installation

The front panel comes off quite easily. It’s held in place through 8 plastic clips total, and a good yank from the bottom helps to release it. It does stay in place quite well though when it’s put back in. There’s not much to say here… Rather than mill the metal to form the shape of a grill, they left most of the front side of the case bare, with only a large screen mesh held in place by 6 push-pins to filter out the dust.

Before we get to our conclusion, let’s take a look at the included fan:

And the official spec sheet:

The fan comes to us from Dongguan Ningjie Plastic Molding Company, and the model is NJ12025SM. While the spec sheet claims it is an 1800 RPM part, with a current draw of 0.23A at 12V, I actually measured its draw at only 0.11A, at which it spun at only 900RPM.

Other than that, the fan has a manufacture date of October 2016, and it is a sleeve bearing model. I peeled off the sticker to take a peek at the internals, and the spindle hole is actually protected with a rubber bung. Upon removing the bung, it did look like there was a sufficient amount of lube inside which seemed to be of an agreeable consistency. Overall, I think this is a reasonably good fan.
