Information is far more fragile than the HDDs it's stored on. Being an afterthought is no excuse for a bad product.

wonder how many I've trashed because of this

curious that it does actually work and does not develop bad sectors (if everything goes OK of course), what's the capacity of this drive?

He said “80 or 100 Meg”; the smallest 2-platter ProDrive LPS was 105MB (Quantum also made a 1-platter 52MB variant) so that must be it.

yeah I can imagine such thing could still work with a bit of dust…anything over few gigabytes and you're screwing the surface

I know how much dirt gets pretty much immediatelly onto LCD glass substrate (which is always perfectly clean from the inside, and also mirror-like glossy, so you see everything) when you disassemble display (for example to fix/replace lamps), if you are not carefull, the platters are just somewhat smaller
