well, if the safe way fails to work out, I'll yank it out.

I always do it properly (unless I'm in a real hurry).
No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the coils backwards! :D

lol. i've never corrupted anything or damaged anything. however, i do make sure it's not transferring a file and i never pull it out if the little light in blinking or anything

I have that much too. I also have my 1 terabyte Seagate (please don't hate me :)). I've barely even used a tenth of that.
