OUCH! It was less than $300 here. I think they're made in China, so wouldn't it be cheaper to get it there since it's closer to the source and they don't have to ship it to the US or anything?

A lot of Chinese made products cost more here in China than in other countries.

Have you ever experienced "Booksprovider has stopped" problem with any of your android devices? It really bothers me.

Nope. The tablet is very stable, especially after the official Android 4.0 update was released!
