Some of the images in the funny picture thread are affected.

What made that happen?

Information is far more fragile than the HDDs it's stored on. Being an afterthought is no excuse for a bad product.

It happened during a software change. When HWI was first formed, the forum was driven by MyBB. It's since been changed to phpBB, and the attachments uploaded prior to the change didn't transfer across.

It's probably about time I cleaned up that thread

EDIT: Done. It's considerably shorter now. We need more funny pictures !!!

I was referring to the images that exist, but are garbled.

I'm not sure exactly, but again, it was probably related to either a software upgrade, or a server change.

They've actually been like that ever since the transition you probably just didn't notice. Sorry there was not a solution it was rather frustrating at the time.
